Set up Changelogit with GitHub
Connect your GitHub account, pick a branch to watch, and let Changelogit generate clean, human-friendly changelogs for you. This guide walks you through installation, permissions, repository selection, workflow setup, and what you will see when a changelog is generated.
Get started in 2 minutes
1. Connect GitHub
Install the Changelogit GitHub App and authorize access to your repositories. No scripts or tokens required.
2. Create a workflow
Choose the branch to watch and enable automatic changelogs for it. You can adjust audience and delivery later.
3. Ship and relax
Each time your repository updates on that branch, a clear changelog is generated automatically.
Step-by-step: GitHub setup
On GitHub, start installing the Changelogit App. GitHub will prompt you to authorize the app for your personal account or organization.
Select the repositories and review the permissions. Changelogit requests only minimal, read-level permissions needed to analyze commits and metadata to draft changelogs.
After GitHub redirects back to Changelogit, you will see the list of authorized repositories in your account. You can enable or manage workflows for each repository.
Create a workflow: choose the target branch to monitor and define the audience (tone and level of detail) for your changelogs. This helps tailor wording for developers, internal stakeholders, or customers.
Make an update on the configured branch. Changelogit will automatically generate a clear, human-friendly changelog and present it to you.
Automate publishing your changelogs to your channels — Discord, Slack, and more. Join our community server to follow Changelogit updates, get help, and share feedback.
